Teaching, learning, and growing: My day in the life with Magic Bus

It starts with waking up around 8:30 to go down and get some breakfast. With not being a massive breakfast this has been good as the hostel breakfast is very interesting, I just stick to the good old trusty water melon! Once I have had my breakfast I go back to my room where I go back to bed for a bit! Normally end up sleeping as we all know this girl can sleep when given the opportunity!

At around 10 I get ready for the day this includes filling my water bottles up and packing some English snacks in case I get hungry throughout the day. At around 10:15 I get into my Uber which would take me to the centre I need I am teaching, this journey takes around 40mins but depends on the traffic!

Once I reach the location I then have to walk to the building to be welcomed by the children saying good morning which is so nice to hear. At around 11:15 am I take them for an hour-ish English lesson, this week we have looked at adjectives, adverbs and past tense. At around 12:15 the children have to leave to allow them to walk to school. If I’m not teaching in the morning I have been able to go around the local community talking to parents about their child’s experience with using Magic Bus. Going round the local community has been a big eye-opener for me.

After this I have time to write up what I did for the blog! Have a chat with the other teacher who are trying to teach me Hindi which so far I have learnt one word off by heart! We then have lunch at around 1pm which normally means I have to try new Indian food which has been so nice, some have been very spicy the others seem to laugh at how I can’t eat it!

At around 1:45 pm, children start making their way into the classroom I start by trying to talk to the children to improve their spoken English. I got told that in the afternoon session, the children are tired and not so keen to join in but I have found this to be wrong; the children seem to find energy from somewhere! I then get to teach the children for an hour and a half or so, this does depend on how much energy the children have. Once the children have gone I can talk to the other teachers who tell me what they have learnt but also we try and have a bit of an English-speaking session while I wait for my Uber to come. I am not teaching in the afternoon I go and play sports with some of the children in a different location.

Once I am back at the hostel I unpack my bag and go and wash my feet as they get so much dirt on them throughout the day. Then I get to have a well deserevd rest where I just sit onmy bed and just chill. I then wait for friends to back to the hostel to deicde what we will eat for dinner. This question takes about 20 minutes to decide, we then either order something in where we eat togther or we will walk somewhere togther.

Once we have had dinner and been for a walk around sometimes to get some pudding we will head back to the hostel around 10pm, we are all shattered so we all decide to go and have a shower and go to bed, to do the whole routine again in the morning!

This was all of the other teacher or support teachers having lunch together.

This has been a highlight of the pudding I’ve had which is a hot cookie and ice cream!

This is the Taj Mahal Hotel we sometimes go out and visit something touristy.

This has also been one of my favourite puddings! A slight issue is that it’s so close to the hostel that it’s to stop me from going!
