This morning I was lucky enough again to go on a community walk around Dharavi. However this time I was as able to view the different businesses which are happening here. Despite this not being my first time looking around Dharavi I’m still in shock about how people live here.

First of all, going up there was boiling, I have no idea how these people can work in these conditions. Despite the children having an education, the children are still used in their free time to help with the process which to me is so heartbreaking but lovely to see. That there is a family relation which is happening but children do need some time just sit and chill.

This was one of the many examples which these tailors make. All of these bags are sold locally.

Despite I currently washing my clothes in a bucket knowing this is how the washing is done every day. They even wash the dishes in the same water to save the amount of water in which they are using.

This is another example of what people can make at the tailors. This is a very traditional dress which Indian girls wear. They make them in so many different colours and sizes.

This is the process of the dress being made. All of the dresses are being made by hand.

What I find encouraging is that this massive flat is being turned into a house for the locals here. The aim is that over time the people who are living in slums is to allow them the opportunity of a better and safer place to live.

When seeing the amount of litter which is just scattered around this is just so horrible to see. This is encouraging the rats to come but also causing for the streets to be covered in water due to the drains are filled with rubbish.

There were so many different local markets which are trying to sell you stuff. I still don’t understand how all of these can survive due to how many of these you can see in a small area.

What I find so good for the children is that despite what they are facing you always see children out in the parks or any area playing cricket.
