After teaching children English in the morning I went to play sports with other children in the afternoon. After a high request for a game of cricket, we were able to play this, but there were some twists to this game. First of all, there is no bat involved instead we are using our feet to hit the ball, the ball is a football, there is an imaginary boundary which has been discussed before we started, and there are two sets of cones for the stumps and each batter faces with balls.
After the rules had been explained I got placed on the fielding team, I got placed as near to the batter as I could this was so I could distract them by talking in English I did feel this was a bit mean so I gradually went further back. Then it was my turn to bowl my 3 balls, I had to roll the ball SLOWLY to the batter which did happen, I would say that of my 3 balls, I had 6 runs which is pretty impressive for this type of cricket, as most people where being sent miles to run for the ball. Once everyone had batted and bowled we switched round we got we needed 38 runs to win.
My team came into bat our two openers started well we were off to a flying start, our top 4 batters were kicking the ball all over the park the fielders had no idea where to stand. Thinking I would be nice I wasn’t so horrible I tapped the ball around this I thought was tactical as I was still getting runs for the team. Then of course the last few batters came in and thought let’s just see how far we can smash it but we seem to find the fileder everytime. Frustration came in and we needed 3 off 2 you can guess where this is going. The first ball of our last batter was a dot not to worry we can still do this. Next ball out we gave the fielder an easy catch, still with one more ball left we could do this we only needed a 4 but that seemed to much for us we fell short by 2 runs which was a shame. But as everyone says to me it’s not about wining its about taking part.
After the session we all had a re cap on what we learnt, starting with me I was like how to play cricket with a football, then comes the proper answer whcih were team work, communcation and just having fun. Its great to see that even with children playing sport they are still able to relaise that there is some sort of education which happens.

This was us at the end talking about what we have learnt

You can see how intense this game can get with all of the fielders getting in close.
