This morning the parents of the students which I have taught as Dharavi came in for Magic Bus to talk to them about what is happening within the education of their child.
The topics which were spoken about include:
- Summer Camp – What are the objectives and activities that happen in summer camp, but most importantly, the benefits of the children attending summer camp for their development.
- Challenges the children face – Common challenges faced by children in Learning Marathi, the local language, and English. Knowing these children are struggling, better support them in their development, which can allow for these children’s dreams to come true.
- Teaching Marathi and English – Overview of how these languages are being taught. Tip for parents to support these languages when at home to help the child develop.
- Extra-Curricular Activities – Importance of extra-curricular activities for children’s development. To then be able to give the parents some examples which the parents could encourage but also what Magic Bus offer
- Life Skill Session – Importance of life skills for the children’s development. To then give examples to the parents about these life skill sessions that can teach children.
What were the key takeaway from this session:
- Provided handouts or resrouces for parents about the Summer Camp ativites and langugae learning tips
- Encourage parents to ask questions and provide feedback. This is the only way their children are going to achieve their dreams
- Discuss ways to support children’s development to which should encourage children with education, which would allow them to overcome challenges.
Just knowing that Magic Bus are still open and wanting to support the children even when it’s their summer holidays is just incredible to me. This shows the dedication Magic Bus is taking for these children’s education and how they are so supportive of these children being able to chase their dreams.
