Last week I was lucky enough to speak to one of the children part of the Dharavi community. Knowing that Magic Bus was able to make his dreams more possible than before is essential for me too.
Jamir Ansari is in a family with 5 members. With a younger brother and a sister. His dad is a tailor and his mum is a housewife. He has been part of Magic Bus since September 2023 and has enjoyed coming. Magic Bus has helped him with his basic maths and Hindi. It has allowed him to improve himself and make his family proud which is so nice to see. With the support of Magic Bus, he’s on a scholarship in school. With the help of Magic Bus, none of this could have been possible and has kept him in school which is such an amazing thing for him. When I asked Jamir what’s his favourite part of Magic Bus he said he enjoys learning Hindi and Maths with fun activities which makes Magic Bus so different to school and why I enjoy it so much. The dream which Magic Bus has allowed Jamir to have a stronger opportunity at having is become an engineer.
What I find so inspiring and a massive takeaway for me is that despite these children haven’t had the greatest start in life they still have dreams which they want to achieve. I am so grateful for what Magic Bus in allowing these children to reach for their dreams to overall allow them to have success and not failure, which is so important to me. If they get a job I hope that when I come back to India in many years to come I will be less slums.
